The St. Marys Skating Club offers a range of programs to learn to skate - from preschool age and up.
We also have STAR level Figure skating starting with our Rising STAR program introduction to figure skating and our STAR Skating program.

We also offer Power Skating for both Ringette and Hockey players.
Pre-CanSkate Program: Ages 3-5
This program is the entry level for beginning skaters age 3-5 years. Children are placed into groups according to ability and taught by a Professional Coach and assisted by qualified CanSkate Program Assistants. The focus of this program is to make skating fun! Learn to skate with our fun program that cobines skill development with lots of games and activities. Skaters will learn to skate with their own power not relying on assistive devices and will learn quickly! Skating skills taught range from learning to stand and balance to going forwards and backwards.
Our program has been developed by Skate Canada and is implemented by certified coaches.
Several times throughout the season we wil have special activity nights and treats as well as contests.
This is a great program for those who would ilke to learn to skate for school activities, recreational skating or to go on to hockey, ringette or figure skating.
CanSkate Program: Ages 5-12
CanSkate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. This program is beneficial to any skater with an interest in ice sports (figure skating, hockey, ringette). Participants earn badges while they learn fundamental skating skills. Skaters are placed in groups according to ability and taught by a professional coach and assisted by qualified CanSkate program assistants. When you choose CanSkate, you will enjoy a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Note: Skaters who wish to progress more rapidly in the CanSkate program are encouraged to register for two sessions per week.
RisingStar and STARSkate
Once you have the basics, you can continue on the path to figure skating by taking part in our RisingStar program. This program introduces the traditional figure skating elements as well as the coach/skater interaction that is such a big part of our sport. RisingStar is taught as a group with a single sesison fee on a one-night or two-night basis. Options may be available for additional coaching to excel in the program and can be discussed directly with the coaches.
Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about!
STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STARSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.
